Summer always brings changes to the weekly schedule of dancing. Summer of 2012 is no exception. We deputized several assistant disk coordinators (designated as ADCs) and supplied them with cameras to record three sessions that are closing, at minimum, for the summer with one possibly being closed permanently. Below, we look at Don's Monday Beth Sholom class, Grant's Sunday morning class and the Friday night session of the Kimberton International folk dancers. In the case of Don's Beth Sholom class, our ADC asked a set of dancers what they were planning to do with their extra time on Mondays given the cessation of dancing. These written notes, although somewhat illegible, provide added insight to the ending of this class.

Below are pictures from the last session at Beth Sholom. Questions remain whether the session will resume in September but Don has made clear that if it does come back, significant changes will be in store. Below the pictures of the last night of dancing are pictures of some of the individual dancers and what they expect to do on Mondays through the summer now that their weekly Monday Israeli dance class in on hiatus

Our ADC, while snapping the pictures below of individual dancers, queried them on their plans. Below each picture is the response although it is clear that there was some confusion or mis-communication between the parties.

Above is Don Schillinger who leads this and other Israeli dance sessions in the Philadelphia region. For much of the summer he will be away but when he returns, Mondays will be spent in the gymAbove is Margo. She was one of the dancers that frequented Houston Hall and Penn's Hillel years ago for Israeli dancing. Apparently, she has just become aware of our history section/scripts on this web site and promised to spend several Mondays reviewing the old photographs. Margo, may we suggest our new script detailing the practice and performance at the 1996 Israel day celebrations at Penn's Landing which you can view by clicking here.Above is Marek. He indicated that he would spend Mondays at Vera's class in North Brunswick. This class is not covered by this web site but draws from the Central Jersey area and the repertoire is consistent with what we have in the Philadelphia region. Here we have Diane. She works for a large computer company. Her intention is to spend Mondays beefing up "Big Blue" to compete on its next appearance on JeopardyJody, above, will walk her dog more often on Mondays. This is a problem with the addiction of Israeli dancing: other family functions can suffer. We suspect the pooch and Jody will be very happy with this new arrangement during the summer but who knows how both will deal with the winter.Patty, shown above, told our interviewer that she was so impressed by our new script on exercise and nutrition for the older Israeli dancer that she is going to emulate one of those profiled, the trainer Rob Schwartz, by practicing Mondays to break his low plank world record of 80 minutes and 9 seconds. While the ADC notes indicate this to be Mike, we're positive that this is Mark (or is it Marc). We're even more positive in that the notes indicate that he will spend these free Mondays working on the next installment of his Ian Fleming/James Bond history that is appearing on this web site, the latest installment of which you can access by clicking here.

Germantown had its annual summer break with the last Sunday of dancing occurring June 15th. Dancing on Sunday morning returns the Sunday after the labor day weekend. Summer dancing at Germantown switches to Wednesday night through July and August.

While we don't cover them in this web site, another International folk dance session that meets on most Fridays through the year is the Kimberton International Folk Dancers. The town of Kimberton is a suburb of Phoenixville and is known for several quality restaurants including the Seven Stars Inn, the Kimberton Inn and the Sly Fox Inn. Another well known establishment is Kimberton Whole Foods and just east of this is the Kimberton Arts and Dance Center where the folk dancers meet. The pictures below show the dancing during the last session on June 15th before the annual summer break. The dancing returns the Friday after Labor day. You can find out more information about the Kimberton folk dancers by Email to hafrysing@yahoo,com
