Several of the local Israeli dancers also do Salsa on a regular basis and several of the dancers extend this into a variation of Salsa, Rueda De Casino (wheel of fortune), generally known as Rueda. Apparently Rueda is like a salsa square dance and this variation originates in southern Cuba. In fact, the center apparently is Santiago De Cuba, not that far from Guantánamo Bay, the US naval base. For most of the Israeli dancers, initial knowledge of the existance of this type of dancing comes from conversations with Milt Cohen, a well known Israeli dancer who also partakes of many other genres of dance. Milt steers would-be Rueda dancers over to Maestro Flaco's classes which take place in the basement of St Paul's episcopal church in Chestnut Hill.
This website has produced several scripts on Rueda (Patty On The Square and Jody's Night Out) and because of this we are on Flaco's mailing list of salsa events. One of the Emails indicated a performance by his Rueda group (apparently Patty is no longer a part of this) and we procured the following videos for those of our readers/visitors who may also be interested in this genre of dancing. Note:The first two videos are by Cindy Hornyak, the last by Malkeh Goldstein.

The video directly below catches a practice of the performance about three hours before the actual event. This is occurring in the basement of St Paul's. As we understand it, the uniform for the night is solid white so several of the dancers are fully dressed and others will need to change as the night unfolds.

The performance is at Temptations on Chelten avenue somewhat below Germantown avenue (the exact location is Chelten and Pulaski). Temptations is generally a banquet hall but it does have rooms in the back for these types of special events. This event was called the Instructor's ball and the name apparently had meaning as six dance instructors teamed up to host the event, each instructor having 40 tickets to sell. And, it was a sellout as over 240 patrons were in attendance. Each instructor (with one instructor cancelling) has one of his classes do a presentation and Flaco's class was the last to perform at about 10:15 PM Friday, Nov 25th, 2016. Directly below is several videos, concatenated together, of the group taken during their performance. This video shows 3 minutes and 22 seconds of the 5 minute 15 second performance.

The video below is from a different camera catching the last 4 minutes and 5 seconds of the performance in question. The positioning of the camera was very similar to the video above. Notice that everyone has their performance clothes on at this point. Also, can you notice the signals - both verbal and hand - that Flaco, wearing the white hat, is transmitting to the dancers. From a prior script we know that's how he communicates the moves to his group. As you watch this see if you can make this out!
