Kicker is the term used in the news media for the ending story of a newscast. Usually some fluff piece to put the viewer into a better frame of mind from the effects of the hard news of the day. The G AND tdc series of disks have their own kickers, the last track of the CD. This is not Israeli dance music. In fact there are several examples which are as far away from dance music as can be imagined. This page (and sub pages) attempt to explain how a kicker came to be on these CDs and give some documentation
First question, you might ask: how did a kicker even get on the first of these disks? And why would one even try to put one on? The answer: by happenstance and luck. When the G8 disk - the first one produced by the disk coordinator - was being assembled, he was very new to the software and technical aspects of CD burning. Note: He's still very uncertain even today as to the software and technical aspects of CD production and burning, but at least he has had several years to appreciate this lack of skill.
The G8 disk at the time had 26 tracks and he theorized that he had 1 minute, 53 seconds left of CD capacity. To test this theory, he put on the only track of music he had whose length was less than indicated. The music is the theme song of his favorite author's best known fictional character. Needless to say this worked and he liked the juxtapositioning of this music with the other tracks. Obviously, the disk coordinator was very naive at the time in thinking that others would appreciate this diversity and this selection was included as the last track (or kicker) when the CD was distributed. Wow, was he wrong as the avalanche of complaints landing on his head indicated! Nevertheless, it got him thinking about including a different piece of music for each volume to be used both for entertainment, diversity and theme. And so, the disk coordinator's kicker was born and continues to this day.
Use the navigation table below to get additional info for the kickers of disks G8 through G12, tdc 0014 and I1. The G6 update CD did not have a kicker associated with it as it is a composite of several themes and established CDs.
